List of Art Museums and Galleries in China

The number of Museums built by China Government and private individuals has increased up to 4,164 and this increase in number took place between 2009 to 2016 according to China Museums Association. When the Communist party came into power in 1949 in China, the number of Museums was just 25.

More than 3,000 are state-owned museums ( Museums which are programmed and supported by national and local governments or universities. China has more than 1,000 private museums and more than a thousand art galleries which include an increasing number of contemporary art galleries as well. With the collection of more than 20 million historical items which makes China a remarkable place to visit 8,000 exhibitions every year.  Out of all the places the Museums of Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses in Xi’an have become an internationally known place for tourists to visit.
